About Our Organic Rooibos

Rooibos contains calcium, iron, fluoride, magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Rooibos is naturally caffeine free and completely safe for pregnant and nursing women, babies, and children. Rooibos is full-bodied, delicious and never gets bitter, no matter how long it steeps. Scores of coffee and black tea lovers are thrilled to discover Rooibos and have been able to kick the caffeine habit!

Rooibos has a slightly sweet and full-bodied natural flavour. It contains only trace amounts of tannic acid, meaning it doesn't deplete your iron and never gets bitter. Rooibos research indicates that it contains 50% more antioxidants than green tea and 17 known antioxidants.

The Gathering Place Rooibos comes directly from an organic farm in the Cedarberg Mountains. The grower is a third generation farmer who hand harvests his Rooibos from uncultivated fields. This ensures the plants' survival for at least 10 years, rather than 2 or 3 years with machine harvested plants. Hand harvesting and no tillage results in farm sustainability for generations to come with little soil erosion in the hot and dry Cedarberg region. This delicate semi arid ecosystem needs the care of sustainable farming practices, allowing the Rooibos to grow as it always has, naturally.

The farmer hand harvests the plants in the summer heat, on the hottest days when the Rooibos is at its peak of flavour and nutritional content. This factor combined with a stringent fermentation, sorting and drying process ensures the highest quality Rooibos you will ever taste. The Gathering Place Trading Company is the only importer to North America of this high quality Rooibos.

Our company imports this tea from the farm in South Africa to our small packaging facility on Cortes Island. We hand pack the tea into recyclable paper bags. In addition, we prepare and package small batches of our Organic Rooibos Chai to ensure freshness and consistency of the product. Our Chai blend has quickly become a customer favourite from coast to coast!

The Gathering Place Trading company is growing quickly! Within the last year, we've expanded across Canada, acquiring distributors in Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Ontario, and we ship our products all over the world. Our products are in over 80 stores and growing weekly.
